Following recent enquiries by a journalist/donor re ASL's involvement with the Ruhunu State Receiving Home, we wish to make the following statement;

The Ruhunu Orphanage is a receiving home run by the Sri Lankan Government.Following the 2004 tsunami, the Government allowed the home to be administered by foreign volunteers.

At a charity dinner in January 2005, an auction was held to raise funds for the above home. Following the event all monies raised were donated to the home in February and March.  This money and donations from other organisations enabled huge improvements to be carried our (click here for before and after pictures)

In addition to funds raised at the charity dinner ASL also received funds from other donors, however in the light of unfavourable press reports which appeared in April/May 2005, ASL informed those donors of the problem and suggested that their funds could be used on other projects. All donors agreed to this suggestion.
