Home Page Last Update:04th January 2010 MAKE A DONATION ACHIEVEMENTS

Adopt Sri Lanka was set up within days of the 26 December 2004 Asian Tsunami which in Sri Lanka killed over 40,000 people, making 1200 children orphans; over 100,000 houses were destroyed resulting in 900,000 people becoming homeless, 125 major schools were destroyed, 50% of the Sri Lankan fishing fleet was destroyed and thousands of livelihoods ruined.

A summary of our achievements and details of our tsunami related projects are documented in detail on separate pages. These included Disaster Relief, Housing, Boatbuilding, School Renovation and Rebuilding, Trauma Relief, Coastal Conservation and Livelihood Regeneration… TO VIEW OUR LIST OF ACHIEVEMENTS click here

We are now using our local knowledge and our experience to make a lasting and tangible difference to the communities whose lives were devastated. In addition we are also trying to redress the imbalance that we now see between coastal communities and those "inland" who have been largely "forgotten" and to help minority groups in the south who have been traditionally overlooked.
